Santorini in November

I still think about this Greece trip back in November 2022 a lot.

The first stop was Santorini, its beauty really surpassed my expectations. Blue and white were the definitive colours of Oia, where we stayed. Staring out at the Mediterranean, I felt like I was enveloped into the blue hues of the salty sea and the clear sky!

Oia

We were there early November, which was technically winter, although you wouldn’t have guessed with the bright blue sky and the sun shining. I’ve heard it gets crazy packed and jammed during the peak of summer, so being on the island during low-season was spacious, quiet and almost desolate in some parts. The lack of busy summer crowds gave room to appreciate how truly beautiful the island was. I am still in awe thinking about the stillness and deepness of the blue Mediterranean Sea and the soft colours of the sky during sunset.

Kamari Beach

We stopped by Kamari beach towards the end of our island tour around Santorini. It was nearing sunset, desolate and peaceful during Santorini’s low-season. Looking out at the water and the moon in the sky, this was one of my favourite moments from the trip.

Akrotiri, Megalochori and Pyrgos Kallistis

The terrain and what you can see is vastly different depending on where you are on Santorini. While you’d normally think of the colours white and blue, there are places like Ammoudi Beach in Oia and Red Beach in Akrotiri that offer hues of volcanic red.

We hopped into a car and were taken around Santorini for a day, stopping by at Red Beach, Akrotiri Archaeological Site, Thira, Pyrgos Kallistis, Kamari Beach, and Megalochori.

NB:
    • Many restaurants and shops close for the winter period.
    • We went to a restaurant in the middle of the island called Metaxi Mas, I still think about their arugula salad!
    • It was chillier than I expected, especially in the evenings.
